Postdoctoral Program

The Postdoctoral Research Station of Materials Science and Engineering is established under the auspices of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology (ECUST), and was founded in 2003.

The Materials Science discipline at ECUST holds multiple key designations: it is a national first-level discipline authorized to confer doctoral degrees in Materials Science and Engineering, a national key (cultivation) discipline, a key discipline of the 211 Project, and a Shanghai municipal key discipline. In 2017, the Materials Science and Engineering discipline was included in the list of national first-class discipline construction. Characterized by the integration of scientific research and engineering scale-up, and dedicated to serving the national economic main battlefield, it is a discipline with distinctive features and advantages in the field of synthetic materials and chemical engineering among universities in Shanghai.

The School of Materials Science and Engineering is home to a range of national and provincial-level scientific research platforms, including: the National Mobilization Center for Medical Biomaterials, the Key Laboratory of Ultrafine Materials Preparation and Application (Ministry of Education), the Key Laboratory of Special Functional Polymer Materials and Related Technologies (Ministry of Education), the Engineering Research Center of Medical Biomaterials (Ministry of Education), the Shanghai Key Laboratory of Advanced Polymer Materials, the Gem Testing Center of ECUST (affiliated to the Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision), the Military-Industrial Composite Materials Research and Production Base (Ministry of Education), and the Shanghai Engineering Technology Research Center of Hierarchical Nanomaterials.

Aligned with the national medium- and long-term development plan and focusing on major national needs, the Postdoctoral Research Station primarily engages in research on non-metallic materials. Its core research areas include the preparation, structure, properties, and engineering scale-up of polymer materials, inorganic non-metallic materials, nanomaterials, and biomaterials. The research projects are closely linked to major programs in national economic development and national defense construction, with a distinct focus on integrating applied basic research and engineering development to achieve industrialization.

In the 2015 national comprehensive evaluation of postdoctoral research stations, the Postdoctoral Research Station of Materials Science and Engineering was rated Excellent and received official recognition and commendation from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and the National Postdoctoral Management Committee.
