Recently, the College of Materials Science and Engineering organized faculty and students to carry out a summer study tour in South Korea. The tour was led by Hu Yanjie, Vice Dean of the College of Materials, together with professors from relevant disciplines, postgraduate representatives, students in the Top-notch Innovative Talent Program, and administrative staff from the Party and Administration Office. Centering on the integration of medicine and engineering, as well as the innovative management system for postgraduate education, the activity adopted various forms including laboratory visits, special academic lectures and seminars. It builds a training platform for materials students to benchmark against international academic frontiers, broaden their research horizons and sharpen their innovative critical thinking skills.
The delegation first visited Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea. At key laboratories of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the group observed the integrated operation of mouse-dedicated MRI and brain surgery tables on site, and learned about experimental equipment such as conductive polymer synthesis, electrospinning and microfluidic platforms. The immersive visit allowed students to get first-hand exposure to cutting-edge international research systems. Faculty and students from both sides had in-depth exchanges on master’s and doctoral training systems and the production of high-level research achievements, sharing advanced experience in talent cultivation and scientific research.
At Seoul National University, professors from the Biomaterials Laboratory of the School of Chemical and Biological Engineering shared their research group’s latest findings on frontier topics such as functional materials for bone tissue repair and the construction of functional extracellular matrices. Chinese and South Korean postgraduates held thorough discussions on experimental details, research challenges and potential innovation points of research projects.
By visiting two top universities in South Korea, this study tour serves as an important practice for the College to implement the internationalization strategy of postgraduate education in the new era and advance the training of top-notch innovative talents in materials. Students gained direct access to world-class research systems, advanced academic ideas and real clinical application scenarios, effectively expanding their international academic vision and deepening their understanding of scientific research.
