The Materiobiology and Tissue Regeneration Research Team is affiliated with the Engineering Research Center for Biomedical Materials, Ministry of Education. The team is dedicated to addressing key engineering and technical challenges in the industrialization of biomaterials, advancing the commercialization of research outcomes, and exploring innovative strategies for disciplinary development and talent cultivation in the new era. Guided by national strategic priorities and clinical needs, the team conducts extensive research on nanoscale inorganic biomaterials for human tissue repair and drug/protein delivery systems, establishing distinctive research strengths with significant impact both domestically and internationally.

Professor Changsheng Liu, elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2017, is a distinguished scholar in the field of biomaterials science and engineering. He has held several prestigious appointments, including Chief Scientist of the National Key Research Program (2012), recipient of the National New Century Talent Award (2006), Shanghai Science & Technology Elite (2007), and National Outstanding Scientist (2010). Professor Liu is recognized as a Fellow by both the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering and the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. He currently serves as President of the Chinese Society for Biomaterials, member of the National Nano-Technology Expert Panel, and holds leadership positions in multiple national academic committees.

Under the leadership of Professor Liu, our research team is composed of a multidisciplinary academic group primarily comprising early-career and mid-career researchers. The current full-time faculty includes one Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one Cheung Kong Distinguished Professor, two recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one recipient of the National Excellent Young Scientist Fund, six Professors, and four Associate Professors. The team has successfully secured over 200 million yuan in competitive research funding from national and provincial programs, including the NSFC Basic Science Center Project, National Key Research and Development Programs, and multiple key projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. Our achievements include over 600 SCI/EI-indexed publications, 229 patent applications (80 granted, including 8 U.S. patents), and prestigious awards such as the National Science & Technology Progress Award (Second Class), National Natural Science Award (Second Class), Shanghai Technical Invention Special Prize, and Shanghai Natural Science Award (First Class, twice). We have established industrial transformation bases in Shanghai, Suzhou, and Wenzhou.

The team sustains robust academic collaborations with a wide range of research institutions and hospitals across domestic and international landscapes, ing high-quality scholarly research through joint initiatives and reciprocal academic exchanges.
