On September 16, students from the 2023 Advanced Materials Outstanding Engineers Class of the School of Materials Science and Engineering, led by Teacher Zhang Yan, embarked on a practice journey filled with technology and innovation—they visited the China International Composite Materials Industry Technology Exhibition for learning, experiencing the charm of cutting-edge materials up close and exploring the high-performance technologies in the composite materials field.

At the exhibition, the students gained in-depth understanding of the properties and applications of high-performance composite materials such as BMC (Bulk Molding Compound), SMC (Sheet Molding Compound), carbon fiber, and glass fiber. They also decoded these materials by combining their professional knowledge of polymer science, appreciating the appeal of material compounding and fostering a broad perspective on materials. With explanations from enterprise experts and Teacher Zhang Yan, along with on-site physical displays, the students learned about the core roles of these materials in fields like aerospace, automobile manufacturing, and new energy, observed the manufacturing processes of some materials intuitively, and deeply felt the scientific and technological strength behind strengthening the country through materials.

The 10th Sungard Cup National College Students Composite Materials Design and Fabrication Competition was in full swing at the exhibition venue. The participating students stopped to learn about the innovative works of the competing teams—from lightweight structures to the application of intelligent materials, each exhibit embodied the wisdom and creativity of young students. This competition not only demonstrated the innovative vitality in the composite materials field but also inspired the students' passion and inspiration for professional research.

With exploration as the boat and innovation as the sail, this visit and learning activity is a key practical component of the Polymer Materials and Engineering Outstanding Engineers Program at East China University of Science and Technology. Through visiting exhibition booths and interacting with enterprises and research institutions, the students have broadened their industry horizons, connected classroom knowledge with practical applications, and laid a solid foundation for improving their future engineering capabilities.
