School of Materials Science and Engineering, East China University of Science and Technology, was established and developed on the basis of the Ceramic Engineering Specialty, started earliest domestically in 1952 and the Plastic Technology Specialty founded in 1957. Now there are Department of Polymer Science, Department of Inorganic materials, Key Laboratory of Ultrafine Materials Preparation and Application under the Ministry of Education, and Engineering Research Center of Biomedical Materials affiliated to the Ministry of Education in the School. Department of Polymer Science is one among the first group of units conferring doctorate in our country since 1981, and Department of Inorganic Materials conferring doctorate since 1986. At present, 6 subjects(materials science, material physics and chemistry, materials processing engineering, polymer chemistry and physics, nano- materials technology, and biomaterials) have been designated to confer doctorate and corresponding master’s degree as well. In addition, a post-doctoral research center has been set up in the first-class discipline Materials Science and Technology.
